There is a fair bit of discussion about the i18n on this wiki. However, since it’s not linked from one place, it’s a little difficult to get a feel for what’s really going on. I’ve put all the links I found on this page, but please relocate if there’s a better place. —mloughran
It seems that localization is pretty important for Rails but not so clear whether anyone has decided what should be done about it. See #2106.

- Translating the Rails error messages is discussed in MultiLingualRails and in OverridingRailsMessagesInAnotherLanguage
- Within Plugins search for “Localization” and “Globalize”. They are projects allow you to translate all content. Globalize looks especially promissing.
- Using Gettext To Translate Your Rails Application is a very thorough introduction to using Gettext with rails. This doesn’t help with the content of your databases though.

- Multilingual Rails by PerWigren? (Tuxxxxie on IRC) – here the translations are stored in ruby code as opposed to in the database (as Globalize does for example).
